La Mesa Church Meal Drive

I am thankful everyday for the blessings God has filled my life with.   But on Thanksgiving, I sing His praises for allowing me to help others. La Mesa church opened its doors to the hungry and we fed them.   We start with filling to-go boxes that drivers take out to the community and hand out to those on the street corners, shut-ins, Meals on Wheels recipients, and various institutions.   We average 600 meals out of the door and this year we sent out 594 meals.

After we cleaned up and restocked the serving line, we started giving lunches out at 11AM to the public that are hungry.  The volunteers filled close to 1300 to-go boxes and plates for an approximate total of 1894 total lunches out the door.

La Mesa also has a free clothing pantry for the community.   Every person receives one bag that they can fill with as much as they can.

To help with the flow of volunteers, La Mesa has an electronic sign-up sheet that opens on 1 November.   It’s very easy to use and I encourage our members to sign-up and show up to help.

One quick story.    This year, a couple who just moved here from Germany, Peter and Caron, signed-up.   They also brought their exchange student.   They were overwhelmed by what they saw.   Peter took a video of the serving line to send home to his parents.   Albuquerque at its finest!!
