Lenten Study: Why Did Jesus Die?
Sundays at 11:00 a.m. in the Library
February 26 – April 2
We are offering a class that explores the answers to the question: Why Did Jesus Die? We will be basing the class on Creation and the Cross by Elizabeth Johnson, an excellent theologian who writes in an accessible manner. She explores where the answer that dominates Western Christianity came from: that Jesus died to satisfy God’s wrath for our sin (spoiler alert – that answer came into being 1,000 years after Jesus died). She then takes us through the whole of Scripture, exploring the many metaphors used for God’s saving work among humanity from the beginning, including through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
