Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church

Adult Christian Growth

At Shepherd of the Valley we seek to continuously deepen our understanding of God and our faith in Christ. We ask big hard questions, respect the variety of answers in this community, and learn from one another.

“The Adult classes provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for me to explore my faith with other Christians.”

Each Sunday we gather at 11:00 following worship for Adult Sunday school. We offer special seasonal studies for Lent and Advent. The rest of the year we use the Feasting on the Word curriculum, which is designed so that you can drop in any time and participate in the discussion.

We have a Men’s Bible Study that meets each Saturday at 8:00 a.m. They delve into the Scriptures and pray for one another.

Women’s Bible Study is open to all, it is a time of sharing and inviting the Holy Spirit to teach and guide us. We meet for different studies from the Bible or dive into current Christian literature. A typical study meets on Friday mornings and takes from 8 to 12 weeks. We take breaks around the holidays and some time off in the summer.

In 2023-24 we opened with a fall study on the Book of Acts by Melissa Spoelstra where we alternated between a week of video teaching and used the following week for further group discussion. We followed with a winter study of Phillipians that also had a video and discussion component, in the spring we dove into “INSPIRED: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again” by Rachel Held Evans. We had no problem sharing thoughts and relating to the author’s experiences.

UPCOMING:
Fall of 2024:  “A Year of Biblical Womanhood”  by Rachel Held Evan

We also offer a Scripture meditation group that uses the practice of lectio divina to listen for God's word to us today. It is the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. on zoom.
