Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church
Adult Christian Growth
At Shepherd of the Valley we seek to continuously deepen our understanding of God and our faith in Christ. We ask big hard questions, respect the variety of answers in this community, and learn from one another.
“The Adult classes provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for me to explore my faith with other Christians.”
Sunday mornings at 11:00 is our education hour. Each Sunday we offer two tracks of Adult classes. One track is using We Make the Road by Walking: A Year-Long Quest for Spiritual Formation, Reorientation, and Activation by Brian McLaren. This book invites us to explore the Bible with fresh eyes and new perspectives. McLaren offers both in depth studies of passages as well as a clear view of the overarching biblical narrative. He invites us to make connections between stories and see the big picture of God’s loving involvement with humanity. In using this as our study guide, we will be challenged to grow deeper in our faith and how we live it out in the world.
The second track offers classes on a variety of topics, such as Informed for Action which explores how we can respond to current social issues. We also offer leadership training and membership classes as part of the second track
We have a Women’s Bible Study that meets each Friday at 10:00 a.m. They work through a variety of studies, and focus on learning and sharing.
We have a Men’s Bible Study that meets each Saturday at 8:00 a.m. They delve into the Scriptures and pray for one another.
